The CH Sitting Position
Earlier this year (on my last blog), I posted about the way CG would sit: His front legs would always be several inches apart, and he would turn his paws out. It reminded me very much of second position in ballet!
I didn’t know if his sitting position had anything to do with his cerebellar hypoplasia, or if it was just one of his charming characteristics, so I asked my readers — and the response was quite interesting!
Lizzie got back to me right away and said both her Tardy and Ziggy (photo, lower right) would sit like this. Selena said her Kiro does this too, but her stance is usually a bit wider since she’s a bit more unsteady than CG. Even Abby’s Arthur sits with his legs wide apart, but his paws face forward.
Even now, I’m happy to report that our little Ellie does the same. Her front legs are usually farther apart than CG’s (she’s also less steady than he), but it’s just as charming.
The general conclusion was that this triangular sitting position must help with balance. It’s likely the most comfortable and stable position they can sit in without falling over.
Have you ever noticed your CH kitty sitting like this? Please share in the comments, and if you have a photo, please share that too!
That’s our ZIggy. Actually Ziggy and Tardy walk with their back legs splayed also, Ziggy much more so than The Turdy One.
Both of my CH babies sit with their front legs apart like that. I’ve also noticed that when Faith lies down, she curls the first knuckles of her front paws under alot.under
Elf sits like Ziggy, usually swaying…..
Ditto Buster!
It always reminds me a bit of a camera tripod!
My Kiara definitely does this “CH Sitting Position”.
My Starr sits like that too!
My cat Mimosa always sits like that as well! My mom calls it her “kickstand” paws since it seems to help her stay upright without having to lean against something else. Whenever she lays down she always tucks her front paws up underneath her.
Yep, Sophie sits like that too! Front legs far apart with her paws facing out. So cute 🙂
