A Monkey’s Tale
Before Matt and I left for our wedding last year, we decided to get CG a few new toys. So, we went to the local pet store, and Matt asked “for their finest catnip.” (I think it’s hilarious when he behaves as seriously about CG as I do!)
Well, in addition to bringing home a tub of catnip, we bought CG an adorable crocheted monkey. (Filled with catnip, of course.)
Now, I’m not the biggest catnip fan. CG’s gone *bonkers* with it in the past, and in the midst of his crazy behavior, I often worry that the catnip combined with CH will end with an injured cat. But, we decided to give it a try, especially since we had heard that him being stimulated (with the help of the catnip) more during the day could help him sleep better at night, which was a major issue back then.
Plus I’m a total sucker when it comes to spoiling our boy.
Anyway, when we bought the monkey, the woman said that it wasn’t the best toy if you had a vicious cat, because it could be torn apart. Matt and I looked at each other and innocently thought, “No! CG’s the sweetest! He’d never be vicious with anything.”
Famous last words.
Here is a before shot and one taken after we returned home.
I know, it could be worse, but it just gave us such a laugh that CG adores this monkey in the most serious way possible. He’s not vicious with it, but he’s certainly not being too gentle!
Now, more than a year later, the monkey remains one of CG’s favorite toys.
Unfortunately, it became one of Ellie’s favorites too. Needless to say we bought a duplicate version of this toy for Ellie (but a squirrel, instead of a monkey), and she wasn’t half as impressed.
Does your kitty have a toy that they “love” like this? Please share in the comments!
I’ve tried tying catnip in a sock with Dotty a couple of times, but she doesn’t seem to respond to it. I’ve also rubbed it all over her various scratching things. I can tell she smells it, but she certainly doesn’t get the catnip “high” like past kitties I’ve had have gotten. I wonder why. (I’ve tried two different brands, and they were high-quality.)
It’s funny you say that. We tried the sock idea too, and CG didn’t care a bit about it. I wonder if it does have something to do with the type of catnip. Maybe certain brands are stronger than others? Who knows 🙂
