Meet Riley Dean

December 2, 2012

Sometimes being spontaneous is the best thing you can do.

And when your spontaneity leads to this gorgeous guy? Well, that sounds like a fantastic decision to me.

Let me explain.

In 2003 Kristie already had two “normie” cats: Abbey, who was adopted in 2001, and Gatsby, who was adopted after he was found with tree sap in his eyes in 2002.

But the summer of 2003 brought a few changes. She was working as a vet tech when a friend brought in a kitten with cerebellar hypoplasia who had stopped eating. It was thought the kitten have to be euthanized because he had given up. The vet was sympathetic and upset about it too and even said that it was too bad, as he thought the kitten could be strong enough to make it.

Don’t tear up yet, because that kitty was Riley Dean!

Thankfully, Kristie was at the right place at the right time and blurted out “I’ll take him with me!”

After patiently feeding him food and water out of a syringe for a few days, Riley Dean began eating on his own again. He relapsed and stopped eating a few more times, but thanks to Kristie’s determination and love, Riley Dean’s now a big, happy CH kitty – he even has his own column, The World According to Riley Dean, in the monthly CH Kitty Club Newsletter!
