Happy New Year! Time To Look Forward to 2013

First of all, Happy New Year!

2012 was simply an exceptional year for us, and I’m even more excited to see what 2013 brings. As you know, we’ve recently moved, and that means scores of new challenges, experiences and more in our new home. So, I thought it may be interested to share with you our CH cat-related “resolutions,” and to find out if any of you had similar goals for this year.

Our main focus and resolution right now is to find ways to make our cats as comfortable as possible in our new home. That’s been a bit of a challenge the past few days since we just moved in, but fortunately they’ve settled down quickly enough.

I’m not sure if they realize that this is home now – especially since our furniture and their things are all around the house – or if they think they’re on an extended vacation. But either way, we want them to feel that this is their home – a safe, happy place for them.

After watching CG acclimate over the past few days, I really can’t think of too much that he’ll need to work on this year. He’s a pro at the stairs – so long as he takes them slowly – and he’s quite brave and competent in nearly everything else.

I guess one thing I would like to work on with him is to encourage him looking outside more. He used to love it, but at some point looking outside and watching cars and trucks go by began to scare him.

Now that we have a nice ottoman that he can use to look out the back window, I’m hoping we can encourage him more and more to do that. We’ll see how it goes!

And Ellie’s resolution is much more obvious: We want to her to get some practice on the stairs. We have some updates about this (more later!), but she’s still wobbly enough that we have the top of the stairs blocked off with our pet gate and the bottom blocked off with the pet gate’s box. We’re not taking any chances!
