Meet Von
I absolutely love adoption stories where the pet parent – or for that matter, the cat – simply knows that they’ve found their match. No matter how many “I just knew he/she was the one” stories I hear, they never get old. They’re all special in their own ways.
So, I thought it would be a great time to post this “I just knew” adoption story, especially since it was just Valentine’s Day. I hope you enjoy it, and if you’d like to, please send in your story!
Here’s Kelly’s:
“I have the most amazing cat ever, and she has cerebellar hypoplasia.
I was getting cat food for my cat at a pet store that was having a cat adoption day. All of the cats were in crates expect for one. She was just laying in the middle of the store looking around. I was automatically curious.
I went up to the adoption rep and asked about the cat. She giggled at me and told me to go pet the cat. As soon as I was done petting her she started “walking” after me. She was flopping and falling all over.
The people around stared at this poor cat. I could hear the cruel things they were all saying about this sweet and beautiful black cat. I went up to the agency rep and asked her what the odds were of this cat being adopted. The rep explained to me that this 8-month-old cat was born in the agency, and no one had ever taken a second look at her until me. At that moment I knew I had to take this special cat home.
My amazing cat is named Von, and we have been together for more than a year with my other cat, Jade. At times I don’t know who’s happier that Von is with us. It’s definitely a toss-up between me, Jade, and Von.”
What a beautiful story. This is exactly what happened with me and Roxy. I walked into a rescue with my sister looking to adopt, having never heard about CH or even had a single thought about cats with special conditions, and there she was laying in the middle of the room. I have never felt such instant connection with any live being. I have since adopted 2 more CH girls but what I share with Roxy is something very special. Some cats and people are just meant to be together I guess.
Great story about Von. Selena’s story is great too. You adopted a cat that would have probably been put down by some agencies after awhile, or at least would not get adopted.
You gave Von a chance and then you saw what a great cat she is!
So happy that Von got a home — I’ve heard that black cats are hard to adopt out, too. What amazes me about these CH cats is that they have all the instincts they should have, and they get where they’re going (if they can), and they are just as loving as any other cat — maybe more so, because you have such a close relationship with them. I’m going to have to send in my story, too! 🙂
