Cats Hate Water? Think Again. This Feline Loves The Tub

The cats in exhibit A are just a small sample of what you’ll get when you Google “cats hate water.” Clearly Harvey, in Exhibit B, didn’t get that memo!
Carmen reached out with this charming — and bizarre — story about her Harvey, who she found out loves water. Here’s their story:
“He has always liked water and he used to crawl in the shower with me when I had a lower tub and shower curtain. Since moving, every time I take a bath he is at the side of the tub! He usually stands up on the side and meows. Sometimes I get water on him (accidentally) and he never minds. That night, he was being extremely persistent so I picked him up and hovered him over the water and he didn’t mind. So I dipped a little paw in the tub, nothing. So then I went for another paw… And so on. And finally I plunk him in the tub…. And he IMMEDIATELY begins purring! It was too funny!
He was so relaxed and didn’t move for quite some time. Eventually I began worrying that the water was too warm (even though it obviously wasn’t scolding hot; I didn’t know how his internal temp worked and I worry about everything), so I took him out. But man did he enjoy it! I imagined it was like a hot tub for him… Nice and relaxing and I wondered if it felt good for him after all the falling and tumbling he does?!”

That is just too cute! I have one the hovers over the tub, and once slid in….but didn’t like it at all!
I can only imagine what your cat was thinking when he hit the water!!
Such great pictures, and what a wonderful kitty that he just allowed you to put him in and he enjoyed it so much. Dotty would FREAK!
But years ago, I had a cat who as a kitten I put on my tummy while I was in the tub, and she gradually got in the water, and she was always getting in the tub and shower with me. So I moved into my Grandparent’s house temporarily, and she came with me, and they were just so surprised that this cat would sit in the corner of the shower! My Grandpa, who my aunt told me hated cats, fell madly in love with Mitten (he called her Gloves, which was so cute) that I left her with him, and he enjoyed her companionship during his last years.
